No it is not the 11th. All 3 games plus the expansion are the 11th. But each one has an average sales number of 1.25 million. So the list is BS!

I was quite disappointed with Doom 3. It went from "Is there a demon behind there? Is there a trap with fire waiting for me?" to "Kill a hundred demons and see a terrible ending!"

It went from tension from the edge of your seat to your typically older Doom games, where you knew where demons were and had to rain fire on them.

Still, the early setting was fun. My style of play is accuracy at long range over power at short range, so having a demon jump at me made me jump back and rain pistol shells down on them.

The real shock is how many copies of Cossacks:European Wars got sold. Just amazing!

I think WoW spent millions of dollars on marketing prior to launch. That makes a huge difference in sales numbers, but also eats into their profits.

Wel, exactly, but I don't see anyone disputing that point. Between my wife and I, we have purchase 10 games - the full 4 for each of us, and a secondary account with 2 games. If I had to guess, I would bet 4 games per person is the average, with some having only 1 or 2, and others with 10+. Total players? Maybe upwards of around 1.2 mil. Active players? Probably right at a mil, which is still decent.

Gratz Anet! Especially when you think about the fact they were practically unknown and didn't have publicity like Blizzard with WoW.

If Guild Wars is just doing OK in this category, more than 2 of the games from this list (Lineage and WOW) would be clearly more popular than Guild Wars. Here is the opportunity for the naysayers to tell us all the other MMO RPG's that are bigger hits than Guild Wars.

Gratz again Anet.

As long as the games run on a single client they are a single game. Buying campaigns gives you additional access to a single game under the title of "Guild Wars". so listing units sold of guild wars is accurate.

Look at the wiki list (where Sims is at no.1 and GW is somewhere in there) again. Tell me, do you see the different way of counting for WoW + other MMOs and GW?

Yeah, as I thought.

Hm... 3 games, plus expansion, plus BMP... = 5.

5 million / 5 = 1 million.
Minus leavers and such... that makes around 100k...500k players.

I really don't think the BMP made near 1 milllion.

Nice list that means nothing. Where is the date and who are you quoting?

I expect a moderate echo effect, of people going from GW2 into GW1 to get special skins and minipets for their characters. You think an undedicated Kuunavang is expensive NOW . . .

Plus of course there will be holdouts for a long time. Look at Everquest: EQ2 has been up for years, but there are still lots of people playing EQ1.

Anyway, grats to Anet on this milestone.

I think Blizzard's marketing was their previous games. They've been around the block and back and made lots of popular games during that time. Their fan base is huge.

Hmmm, but how much longer has Diablo 2 been out

Congrats, Anet. For a new company with a totally new game (and concept within the MMO/RPG world) you've done very well. I still love the game.

This is the way forward. The first of many. Look at WoW...they started small with much earlier games, and now have their flagship game. GW has a long way to go, but it also started a long way behind most of the other companies, so I think they can be very proud their idea of subscription free gaming - at a high standard - has done so well so far.

I remember how we had threads a while back saying "Hellgate is going to kill GW" and "TR is going to kill GW" not to mention the failure that was Fury...6 months on GW has sold another million copies. Says it all, doesnt it?
